Corven Vell's Hideout — Ground Floor

H2 — Conservatory

Beautiful Things That Should Not Be Touched

Warm damp air rolls across the threshold.

Frosted panes enclose a narrow conservatory crowded with trellises, hanging baskets, shallow water trays, and carefully labeled ceramic pots. Some plants are ordinary medicinal herbs. Others have waxy leaves, hooked thorns, translucent seed pods, or blossoms with colors that seem almost too saturated to be natural.

A brass irrigation pipe runs along the ceiling. Small valves divide it into separate beds.

Corven grows medicinal plants beside toxic ones because the distinction matters less to him than dosage, preparation, and effect. Every specimen is labeled with origin, collection date, and handling precautions.

Challenge: Read the Garden

Primary CheckNature DC 16, Crafting DC 16, or Herbalism Lore DC 14
Critical SuccessThe character identifies the hazardous beds, the medicinal stock, and the ventilation controls. They also notice that several specimens are tagged with RR sample numbers.
SuccessThe character distinguishes the dangerous plants from the useful ones and notices that some specimens came from Reiver's Right.
FailureThe labeling is highly technical. The character can tell the room contains dangerous material but not which beds matter.
Useful Harvest

A careful character can collect approximately 2 gp of specialized botanical reagents without damaging the collection. These count toward the house's 12 gp of raw alchemical materials.
