LANTERN OF LAST ECHOES ITEM 2
Uncommon • Magical • Occult
Price 30 gp
Usage held in 1 hand; Bulk L
A black iron lantern with cloudy glass shutters and a pale, smokeless flame. When opened near a fresh death, the flame briefly twists into silhouettes too indistinct to recognize. Old investigators of the river trade used such lanterns to reconstruct disasters and disappearances.
Activate—Final Glimmer [two-actions] (concentrate, manipulate)
Frequency once per day
Requirements You are within 10 feet of identifiable physical remains of a creature that died during the past 24 hours.
Effect For an instant, the lantern projects a silent, indistinct image representing a single sensory fragment of the creature's final moments, chosen by the GM: for example, the outline of a doorway, the splash of water, the silhouette of an attacker, or a flash of fire. The echo lasts no longer than 6 seconds and cannot communicate, answer questions, identify a creature unambiguously, disclose thoughts, or accurately reproduce written information. The lantern draws a residue from the death site; it neither summons nor speaks to the dead. If no suitable echo remains, the activation is expended without a vision.
Special This activation has no effect on thralls and doesn't grant, strengthen, or extend necromancer class abilities. Any creature can use this held item; it is thematically suited to a necromancer.
GM Placement: An investigator's effects in the Foreman's Hall, or a sealed Golden Hand cache. This is a custom homebrew permanent item, not published Paizo equipment.
