Derrin Hale's Letter
Maelin,
I made it to Reiver's Right. The pay was real, at least. They handed me more for two days of freight work than I usually make in a week.
I don't like the job.
Half the cargo is ordinary enough, but some of the loads aren't being entered with the rest. We bring them into the storehouse after dark and I'm told to leave the unloading to Hendrick's men.
Nobody will tell me what's in those crates. Every time I ask, somebody reminds me how much I'm being paid not to.
I'm finishing what I agreed to do and coming back to Macridi. I should have listened to you.
I'll tell you the whole ridiculous story when I see you.
