Archtype - Prophet of Kalistrade

Druma Character Options

Prophet of Kalistrade

A player-facing primer for gaining access, meeting the dedication prerequisites, and building a character who can enter the archetype cleanly at 2nd level.

Uncommon Archetype Dedication 2 Druma Social / Occult

At a Glance

AccessYou are from Druma.
PrerequisitesTrained in Society, trained in Mercantile Lore, and Charisma +2 or better.
Earliest Entry2nd level, normally using a 2nd-level class feat; a Free Archetype slot can work if the campaign allows this archetype.
Core IdentityMerchant-savvy Kalistocrat with elite social knowledge and a touch of occult magic.
Access Is Not the Same as Prerequisites A Druman character satisfies the archetype's listed Access condition, which makes this uncommon option available to that character. You must still meet every prerequisite on the dedication when you select it. If your character is not from Druma, access is not automatic; the GM can still grant access if the story supports it.

How to Qualify by 2nd Level

  1. Establish Druman origin. Put it directly in the character concept: born, raised, or otherwise genuinely from Druma. This handles the listed access condition.
  2. Get Mercantile Lore. The easiest route is the Merchant background, which trains Diplomacy and Mercantile Lore and fits the archetype naturally.
  3. Train Society. Choose Society as one of your 1st-level trained skills from your class or another character option.
  4. Reach Charisma +2. Build with at least a +2 Charisma modifier at character creation. The Merchant background makes this easy.
  5. At 2nd level, select Prophet of Kalistrade Dedication. You now have the dedication and are committed to this archetype until you take two additional feats from it.
Dedication Commitment Under the standard archetype rules, after taking a dedication you cannot take a different dedication until you have taken two other feats from the current archetype. Plan at least two follow-up Prophet feats before entering.

What the Dedication Does

  • Your Society proficiency improves to expert.
  • Against merchants and traders, you can use Society instead of Diplomacy when you Make an Impression.
  • If you do not already cast spells from spell slots, you gain a small spontaneous occult cantrip repertoire, using Charisma for your spellcasting statistics.
  • Your affiliation with the Prophets is recognizable to people familiar with the organization unless you deliberately conceal it.
Character Tone Wealth is not merely a possession to you; it is evidence that discipline, insight, and correct practice have aligned. You dress deliberately, negotiate carefully, and treat commerce as both social contest and spiritual exercise.

Full Example: Druman Merchant Rogue

This build is designed to qualify naturally at 2nd level while also getting strong practical value from the dedication.

Level 1 Foundation

  • Ancestry: Human
  • Homeland: Druma
  • Class: Rogue
  • Background: Merchant
  • Key trained skill: Society
  • Background Lore: Mercantile Lore

One Legal Attribute Spread

  • Strength +0
  • Dexterity +4
  • Constitution +1
  • Intelligence +1
  • Wisdom +0
  • Charisma +3
Why It Qualifies The character is from Druma, so the access condition is met. Merchant supplies Mercantile Lore. Rogue can train Society at 1st level. Charisma +3 exceeds the +2 requirement. At 2nd level, every gate is satisfied without retraining or special GM permission.

At 2nd Level

Take Prophet of Kalistrade Dedication. Society jumps to expert. Because this rogue does not normally cast spells from spell slots, the character also gains the dedication's occult cantrips. In a Druman city, this turns the rogue into a particularly strong commercial negotiator and information broker.

Example in Play

The party needs a supplier to release a shipment of rare darkwood without a long delay. The merchant is indifferent and cares more about reputation and commercial standing than personal charm. The Prophet can Make an Impression using Society rather than Diplomacy, leaning on knowledge of contracts, guild etiquette, market pressures, and Druman business customs.

Suggested Standard Progression

LevelChoiceWhy
2Prophet of Kalistrade DedicationEntry feat; expert Society and the archetype's core commercial/occult package.
4Basic Prophet SpellcastingAdds real spell slots and expands the occult side of the character.
6Fortune's Favor or another eligible Prophet featCompletes the two-feat commitment after the dedication and develops the archetype's “turn advantage into more advantage” theme.
8+Continue Prophet or branch outOnce two additional archetype feats are taken, another dedication becomes available under the normal rules.

Best Fit for a Druma Campaign

Choose this archetype when you want your character to interact with Druma through commerce, status, social leverage, occult practice, and Kalistocratic institutions. It is especially useful in adventures where merchants, contracts, reputation, wealth, or elite Druman society matter as much as combat.
