Infernal Blight — Progression
Growth of an Infernal Blight
Biological Stages of the Engineered Corruption
The precise combat statistics of infernal blight growths can scale with party level, but their biological progression is already clear. Each stage represents a deeper integration between the planted organism, the surrounding root system, and the infernal disturbance that nourishes it.
| Stage | Name | General State |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Blight Seedling | Newly planted, roughly heart-sized, and relatively vulnerable once uncovered. A seedling begins infecting nearby roots, soil, and groundwater, but it has not yet secured a deep hold on the surrounding terrain. |
| Stage 2 | Blightroot | An established underground root mass. A blightroot is harder to excavate and can defend itself through grasping roots, caustic sap, corrupted growth, or other localized reactions from the infected environment. |
| Stage 3 | Blight Node | A mature regional infestation capable of sustaining significant environmental corruption. A blight node can support associated blighted creatures, spread contamination through connected roots and water, and continue poisoning an area even after lesser growths are destroyed. |
| Stage 4 | Blight Heart | A fully developed local organism deeply integrated into its surrounding root system. A blight heart is difficult to destroy, both physically and magically, because it has become part of the land around it rather than a single exposed target. |
| Unique | Mother Blight | The original engineered organism. Mother Blight is far older and larger than the field plantings, and is integrated with the infernal planar disturbance beneath Pulgari Estate. |
GM Note
Use these stages as narrative categories first and stat blocks second. A Stage 1 Blight Seedling might be a fragile objective in one encounter, while a higher-level version could be protected by hazards, blighted creatures, or hostile terrain.
