Court of Endless Revelry

The Court of Endless Revelry
A Comprehensive Handout on the Satyr Court of the Palakar

1. The Heart of the Wild

Deep in the northwestern reaches of the Palakar Forest, far from the smoke and sawdust of Macridi, lies the Court of Endless Revelry. Hidden within a massive, hollowed-out grove of ancient live oaks, this court is the largest congregation of satyrs in the entire Palakar region. The woods here are permeated with an intoxicating blend of wild mushrooms, crushed grapes, and the scent of blooming nightshade. The very air vibrates with the chaotic music of panpipes, drums, and the raucous laughter of fey creatures.

The Court is not a single place, but rather a moving wild party. The satyrs are nomadic, and the "Court" refers to the massive collection of mushroom circles, hidden glens, and ancient monuments where they gather when the moon is full. It is a chaotic, beautiful, and dangerous place, governed not by laws, but by instincts, pleasures, and oaths sworn on the blood of the ancient forests.

The Court is the physical manifestation of the "Old Pact." While the Court of Seasons deals with the strict, cyclical law of nature, the Court of Endless Revelry embodies the *wild* nature of the forest—its bounty, its chaos, and its insatiable appetite for life. The satyrs do not merely tolerate humans; they view them as fascinating, if somewhat dull, guests—provided they bring gifts of strong wine, beautiful art, or new songs.

2. The Hierarchy of Revelry

Unlike the rigid Kalistocracy of Druma, the Court of Endless Revelry has no formal nobility. Instead, power flows to the satyr who is currently the most charismatic, funny, or dangerous. The current leader is a satyr named Fennin the Bold, a magnificent specimen with curling rams' horns and a penchant for outrageous riddles. Fennin was not born into power; he earned it by driving out a dangerous Gorgon that had strayed into the Palakar, and by inventing a song so vulgar and hilarious that the trees themselves laughed for a full week.

Below Fennin, the court is divided into loosely organized "troupes" that function like extended families. Each troupe has a leader, usually a powerful druid or bard. The most prominent troupes are the Midnight Troupers, who explore the deep, dark parts of the forest; the Golden Hoof Fellowship, who specialize in trading with the human loggers; and the Summer Madness, a group of highly dangerous, unpredictable satyrs who embody the dangerous ecstasy of wild magic.

Though chaotic, the Court has one absolute law: Hospitality is Sacred. Any creature that enters the Court with an offering of food, drink, or entertainment is under the absolute protection of the entire court. To harm a guest is to earn the eternal enmity of every satyr in the forest. However, if a guest refuses to drink, dance, or join the revelry, they are viewed as a "Dead Thing," and they may be forcibly ejected—or worse, transformed into a tree for the amusement of the court.

3. The Fey Pact with Macridi

The Court of Endless Revelry is bound to the town of Macridi through a treaty that predates the Kalistocracy itself. In exchange for being allowed to hunt and gather freely within the Palakar without fear of the Blackjackets, the satyrs serve as the eyes and ears of the forest for the Logging Guild. They lead human lumberjacks to the finest stands of mature darkwood, divert them away from cursed swamps, and warn them of natural dangers.

This arrangement is deeply profitable for both sides. The satyrs get an endless supply of honeyed mead, fine silk (which they tear apart to use as drum skins), and fascinating stories from the outside world. In return, the humans get access to the incredible timber that makes Macridi the economic powerhouse of Druma. The satyrs consider the humans to be somewhat uncouth, but ultimately useful playthings.

The pact is not enforced by any formal law but by the Blood Price. If a human crosses the satyrs, the satyrs are entitled to take a human heart as payment. In the past, this was a grim reality that kept the loggers honest. But recently, the pact has begun to collapse. The humans are cutting unmarked trees, the rivers are being poisoned, and the satyrs can no longer find clean water to drink.

GM Note: Fennin is terrified. The old magic that sustained the revelry is being drained from the forest. He knows the humans are responsible, but he also knows that if the pact collapses, the entire forest will be consumed by the blight seeping from Reiver's Right.

4. A Day at the Revelry

For an adventurer, visiting the Court of Endless Revelry is an experience that involves both incredible pleasure and horrific danger. A feast at the court begins with an offering of wine and a song. If accepted, the party is led to the heart of the grove, where a massive bonfire illuminates hundreds of dancing satyrs. The food is the best in Avistan: venison roasted in honeyed herbs, goblin-spiced mushrooms, and a wine so potent that it restores lost memories (but also erases random ones).

The satyrs do not waste time with boring questions. They ask riddles, demand performances, and challenge the party to feats of agility and wild magic. If the party impresses them, they are showered with gifts: enchanted horns, bags of wild seeds, and maps to hidden treasures. If the party insults them, they are turned into dancing instruments—forced to play themselves for a century, or thrown into the deep, dark places where the satyrs keep their enemies.

However, the revelry is currently a shadow of its former self. The trees have stopped growing, the wine tastes like ash, and the animals are fleeing the forest. The satyrs are starving, and their usually chaotic laughter has turned into a nervous, desperate giggle. Fennin is willing to offer the party incredible rewards if they can identify the source of the blight, but he is also on the verge of war with the humans whom he blames for the poison.

Not everything in the Court of Endless Revelry is happy chaos. A faction of the court, led by a fearsome satyr named Bramblewhip, is actively hostile to the humans. They believe the Blood Price has been violated beyond repair and that the only way to restore the forest is to destroy the logging town of Macridi entirely. Bramblewhip has begun secretly summoning *Fey-Cursed Wood Walkers*—living trees warped by negative fey magic to attack the outskirts of the town.

The walkers were summoned using dark magic dredged up from the Desolation Blade Mounts. The satyrs believe that this ancient magic, if unleashed properly, will force the forest to purge itself of the human taint. Fennin is torn—he does not want war, but he cannot allow the forest to be destroyed. He sees the party as the only chance to broker a peace before Bramblewhip's forces become uncontrollable.

Furthermore, the satyrs have begun to see hallucinations of the "Pale Hand and Blackened Blade." When they drink the poisoned water from the Profit's Flow, they have visions of the ancient Macridi Blade culture—a civilization that traded with the shadowy powers of the First World, not for profit, but for eternal power. This ancient pact is what originally bound the satyrs to the forest, and it is now bleeding through the cracks in reality.

Immediate Danger: If the party does not act quickly, Bramblewhip will launch a full-scale attack on Macridi, ignoring the Blood Price and causing a catastrophic war. Fennin has perhaps one week to broker a peace before he is forced to either give in to Bramblewhip's madness or throw himself on the mercy of the humans.

6. Secrets of the Court

  • The Forgotten Horn: Fennin possesses the golden horn of a long-dead unicorn. It can be blown once to summon a massive, ancient forest guardian—but doing so will require a great sacrifice of life.
  • The Singing Cave: Beneath the Court lies a system of underground caves filled with an endlessly humming resonance. Those who meditate here can hear the echoes of the past, including the final words of the fallen Macridi Blade kings.
  • The Vine of Fates: A massive, ancient vine grows through the center of the court. If a leaf is plucked, the creature it belongs to immediately knows the location of the plucker. This is how the fey keep track of troublemakers.
