The Hall of Weighing
TrapPuzzleArea TH2 — The Hall of Weighing
A vast chamber dominated by a massive balance scale — the Scale of Pharasma. The floor is tiled in black and white, representing life and death. The exit is sealed by a wall of force that only drops when the scale is balanced.
The Trap: As the party enters, the doors seal. Ghostly figures appear on the scales: one side holds the party's virtues (courage, compassion, hope), the other their burdens (fear, cruelty, despair). The scale tips toward burdens.
To balance it, the party must:
- Confess a sin or fear (each party member who does so adds weight to the virtue side; requires a sincere admission, judged by the GM).
- Sacrifice a possession of personal value (placed on the scale; magic items are especially effective).
- Recite Pharasma's creed (Religion DC 20; adds moderate weight).
Failure Condition: If the scale remains unbalanced after 5 minutes, the floor opens — DC 24 Reflex save or fall 30 feet onto spikes (4d6 piercing + 2d6 falling). The scale then resets.
Success: The wall drops. Each party member who confessed gains a +1 status bonus to Will saves for 24 hours (Pharasma's blessing).
The Scale of Pharasma
Read to the players:
The scale creaks. On one pan, translucent figures dance — moments of kindness, bravery, love. On the other, shadows coil — your regrets, your nightmares, the things you have done in darkness. The scale groans toward shadow.
A voice, neither male nor female, speaks from the air: "The Lady weighs all souls. What do you offer against your weight?"
