E8 — The Cinder Storehouse

The Cinder Storehouse
Crates and amphorae crowd the storehouse beneath a ceiling blackened by old heat. Some containers hold ordinary tools and lamp oil. Others pulse faintly when the party passes, as though a coal is breathing inside the ash-packed wood.
The storehouse contains the supplies that kept the lower levels functioning. It is a useful salvage room, but careless handling can release unstable residue and make the party’s later movement through the basement more difficult.

| Feature | Contents and use |
|---|---|
| Tool racks | Provide hammers, wedges, pry bars, spare chain, and a repair kit suitable for the intake gate or lift housing. |
| Lamp-oil shelf | Three sealed flasks remain usable. One cracked flask has soaked into the floor and makes a dangerous slick around the western crates. |
| Cinder amphorae | Two contain inert ash; a third contains warm residue that flares when exposed to air. It can be sealed, carried, or deliberately used to mark a route. |
| Inventory board | The last entries record emergency rope, furnace keys, and “one sealed ember” moved toward S1-E9. |
| Collapsed crate wall | Behind it is a narrow crawlspace with a dry cache: chalk, bandages, and a small iron hook. |
Unstable residue
A rough handling check or a strong impact can crack the warm amphora. The flare creates smoke, difficult footing, and a visible signal to the submerged guardian, but it does not destroy the supplies or seal the route.
Salvage: The repair kit can grant a circumstance bonus to one attempt involving the Intake, Counterweight Gallery, or Ash Lift if the party explains how it is used.
