Auginford — South Road Waystone

The South Road Waystone
Beyond the last houses, the road divides around a waist-high stone. Moss covers most of its carving, but three narrow faces remain clean, as if something has recently touched them.
The waystone marks the old route toward the Mansions and the newer track used by hunters. It is a useful place to orient the party, make preparations, or notice that the landscape is no longer obeying ordinary distance.
Details
- The three-house emblem appears on the stone in a style older than Auginford’s oldest records.
- The road to the Mansions sometimes seems shorter when approached at dusk and longer when approached after a failure or retreat.
- A small iron ring on the rear face opens a hidden compartment containing a charcoal rubbing of the family crest.
