Thornwick Village
Thornwick lies in a shallow valley where three old goat-tracks come together before climbing back into the hills. Most of the houses are shuttered now, their whitewashed walls stained by years of rain and neglect. Only a handful of chimneys still smoke. The silence is the first thing visitors notice. The bells are the second.
Before long, the party will likely become familiar with a few places that everyone in Thornwick knows.
- The Church of Pharasma. Sister Mirela has made the church her refuge and rarely leaves it except to tend the sick. Beneath the altar, hidden among the old crypts, the veil-tear continues to widen.
- The Bleating Lamb. Once the village inn, it now sits boarded shut. Grist Mallow survives in the cellar and has become so suspicious that he sometimes fires a crossbow through the door before asking who's there.
- The Cemetery. The older graves have begun to glow with a pale blue light after dark. Most villagers refuse to go near them anymore, and for good reason.
- Old Varla's Hut. Children whisper that the hedge witch talks to ghosts. The adults laugh at the story—at least during the day. Even so, someone still leaves bread and firewood on her porch every few mornings.
The church sits at the northern edge, the cemetery behind it. The Bleating Lamb is at the crossroads. Old Varla's hut is in the woods to the east.
