The Gallery of Faces
HauntArea TH3 — The Gallery of Faces
A long corridor lined with alcoves. In each alcove, a stone face — the preserved visage of a crusader who died at the Threshold. But the faces are alive. They speak. They weep. They beg for news of the world they left, or curse the names of enemies they never defeated.
This is a haunt — not hostile, but draining. Each round spent in the gallery, every party member must succeed at a DC 20 Will save or become stupefied 1 from the psychic weight of so many trapped souls. The condition stacks.
The Faces' Bargain: The faces know the way to the Judgment Chamber and the Veilbreaker's weakness. They will share this information if the party agrees to carry a message to the living world — each face has one final message for a descendant, a lover, or an enemy. This requires:
- Spending 10 minutes listening to each message (there are 1d4+2 faces).
- Promising to deliver them (binding; breaking the promise causes a curse: drained 1 until atoned).
What the Faces Know:
- The Veilbreaker's avatar is vulnerable to positive energy channeled through a psychopomp's true name.
- The final shard is embedded in the avatar's chest — it must be removed before the avatar is destroyed, or the shard detonates (10d6 force damage in 30-foot radius).
- Keth-Veyr's original name — spoken with compassion — can weaken its resolve.
