Sister Caldris Vale

Sister Caldris Vale

Female Human Warpriest of Gozreh 1 · Storm-Armored Expedition Priestess

Sister Caldris Vale is not a cloistered healer. She is a weather-beaten warpriest of Gozreh who believes storm, tide, river, reef, and volcanic stone all speak the same warning. She joined the expedition after omens gathered around the Noyrus River and the Castrovin Sea: gulls flying inland, black rain over Kridorfrost, and saltwater dreams in places that had never known the tide.

Caldris fills the party’s divine frontline role. She can stand beside the hobgoblin tank or cover the line when he is absent, strike with a heavy spiked mace, heal in emergencies, and use short-duration divine buffs to survive violent shipboard fights, bridge collapses, pirate raids, and later Darklands battles against Spawn-tainted horrors.

Warpriest Class Features

Aura: Caldris has the aura of her deity’s alignment.

Blessings: Caldris chooses Water and Weather, matching Gozreh’s portfolio and the campaign’s storm-sea-to-Darklands structure.

Fervor 3/day: Caldris can heal herself or allies with positive energy, or later use fervor to cast warpriest spells on herself as a swift action.

Sacred Weapon: Her chosen weapon is the heavy spiked mace. At low levels it functions normally, but it becomes more important as sacred weapon damage and enhancements improve.

Spells: Warpriests prepare divine spells from the cleric/orison list and eventually cast up to 6th-level spells.

How to Play Caldris at Level 1

Be the second frontliner. Caldris should not hide behind the party. She can hold a doorway, protect the witch or gunslinger, and absorb attacks that would otherwise hit softer allies.
Use buffs before hard fights. At low level, bless, divine favor, and shield of faith are often better than saving every slot for healing.
Fervor is emergency medicine. At 1st level, use fervor to keep someone conscious or keep Caldris standing when the line starts to buckle.
Do not make her aquatic-only. Gozreh gives her sea and storm identity, but she must remain effective in dry volcanic tunnels and abyssal Darklands combat through levels 12–14.

Blessings, Weapon, and Combat Style

Recommended Blessings

BlessingCampaign UseWhy It Fits
Water Maritime survival, underwater scenes, movement through flooded chambers, defense against water hazards. Connects directly to Gozreh, the Castrovin Sea, the Noyrus River, and the Razored Labyrinth’s flooded passages.
Weather Storms, shipboard battles, fog, wind, lightning, dangerous sea-stack travel. Lets Caldris read and answer the campaign’s strongest recurring omen: unnatural weather over the Castrovin Sea.

Heavy Spiked Mace Identity

The heavy spiked mace gives Caldris a brutal, practical, expeditionary feel. It is not elegant. It smashes shell, bone, helm, coral, rusted armor, and eventually obsidian growths on Spawn-tainted monsters.

SituationTactic
Shipboard fightHold the gangplank or hatch, force enemies to come through her threatened space.
Bridge or ruin collapseUse shield, armor, and healing to anchor the party while others rescue civilians.
Pirate ambushCast bless, step forward, and punish enemies who rush the backline.
Darklands tunnelFight shoulder-to-shoulder with the hobgoblin tank and hunter companion.
Spawn-like horrorBuff first; do not trade unbuffed full attacks with boss monsters.

  • Heavy shield or buckler: early tanking support; adjust if two-handing becomes preferable.

  • Headband of inspired wisdom: improves spells and blessings.

Personality and Roleplay

Caldris is calm until she is not. She speaks softly, studies wind direction, tastes rain, and notices when animals fall silent before a tremor. In battle she becomes direct and severe, advancing beneath shield and storm-prayers with her spiked mace raised. She does not romanticize the sea. She reveres it because it destroys the arrogant.

Campaign Quote

“Gozreh warned us in river, storm, and stone. We are done pretending not to hear.”
