The Thinning Veil

The Thinning Veil

A long backstory for Sylas Dawnweaver

The Fey-touched

Sylas was born under a lunar eclipse, a sign that the Feywild's influence was strong in his bloodline. He was raised in the forests of the Shaar's northern reaches, where the boundary between worlds was thin enough to feel.

He learned to walk the border — to step between the mortal world and the Feywild, to speak with the creatures that dwelt in both, to understand the language of the land that others could not hear.

He served as a guide for travelers who needed to pass through the wild places. He taught them the old paths, the safe roads, the ways to avoid the dangers that lurked in the shadows.

The Thinning

Then, a few years ago, he felt it — the veil between worlds was thinning. The Feywild was bleeding into the mortal world in places it should not. Creatures that had never crossed the boundary were appearing in the Shaar.

He investigated. He followed the threads of magic, the cracks in reality, the whispers that rode the wind. And he found that the source of the disturbance was not in the Feywild — it was beneath the lake.

The Whispers

Sylas heard the whispers before anyone else. He heard them as a song, a song that was not from the Feywild, not from the mortal world, but from somewhere else entirely. It was a song of hunger, of ancient memory, of a prison that was slowly breaking open.

He came to New Lhesper to investigate. He believes the yuan-ti are unwittingly widening the breach — and that if they succeed, the whispers will become a flood.

Now

Sylas walks the Shaar with his bow and his wisdom. He has seen the yuan-ti moving in the bog. He has heard the whispers growing louder. He knows that something is coming — something that will change the world forever.

And he knows that he must stop it.

"The veil is thin here. And on the other side, something is waiting."
