Scene 1

Meeting Lord Greymark

Lord Greymark's hall smells of wet wool, lamp oil, and old stone. A city map lies open on the table, pinned at the bridge, the market, and a sealed road leading toward the abandoned dungeon. The lord does not rise when you enter, but his first words are direct: "Something below Greyford has started moving again."

Scene Goals

  • Introduce Lord Greymark as patron, pressure source, and information gate.
  • Use the city map to show Greyford, the old dungeon road, and the reported activity site.
  • Give the party a reason to investigate quietly before panic spreads.
  • Let the players negotiate payment, authority, supplies, and access to records.

Running the Scene

Keep this scene conversational. Lord Greymark wants discretion because the city remembers the old dungeon as a sealed civic failure. He can provide a map, a writ of authority, two lanterns, a sealed worker's key, and the name of the scout who saw green light at the entrance.

GM note: do not start combat here. The threat should feel close but not present. If the players push for action, end the meeting with a messenger reporting fresh movement at the dungeon entrance.
