Movement in the Shallow

Movement Through Mudjaw Beach

Hybrid PF2e Terrain Rule

Most of Mudjaw Beach is covered by 1–2 feet of water. These rules use PF2e's difficult-terrain system, with a few encounter-specific rulings for creature size and aquatic movement.

Creature 1–2 ft. Shallows Deep Blue Water
Small Land Creature Greater difficult terrain. Each 5-foot square costs 15 feet of movement. Uses normal swimming rules.
Medium Land Creature Difficult terrain. Each 5-foot square costs 10 feet of movement. Uses normal swimming rules.
Large Land Creature Normal movement. The water is shallow enough relative to its size that it does not automatically impede movement. Uses its Swim Speed or normal swimming rules.
Grindylow Swim 25 feet. Grindylows are amphibious shallow-water hunters and move normally here. Swim 25 feet.
Reefclaw Swim 30 feet. Reefclaws are aquatic predators and move normally through the flooded shallows. Swim 30 feet.
Blue-Ringed Octopus Swim 20 feet. The shallow water restricts its normal swimming motion. Swim 25 feet. It uses its full Swim Speed in the darker eastern channel.
Roots, Reeds, and Mud

These movement rates account only for water depth. Dense root tangles, heavy reeds, submerged branches, and particularly soft mud can still be difficult terrain for any creature whose movement is physically obstructed.

Dry Ground

Creatures use their normal land Speeds on dry ground. The blue-ringed octopus uses an encounter-specific 5-foot crawl when forced completely out of the water.
