Workers' Bunkhouses
The People Who Expected to Come Back
Rows of narrow bunks fill the workers' cabins. Blankets remain tangled from sleep. Boots sit beneath beds. Cheap playing cards, letters from home, carved figures, shaving kits, and little personal hoards occupy shelves and footlockers.
The bunkhouses should humanize the missing workforce. Reiver's Right was not an empty company site; roughly fifty people lived and worked here. Most of them left behind things people take when they know they are leaving for good.
No check is required to establish that the workers did not pack for an orderly departure.
Perception DC 15: Several pairs of work boots and trouser cuffs are stained with fine gray clay that does not match the dark surface soil around the bunkhouses.
Critical Success: The gray-clay workers correspond to the same names repeatedly assigned to lower works in the Foreman's Hall.
Avoid filling every bunk with a clue. Letters, jokes carved into bedframes, and mundane possessions are more effective here than another formal puzzle.
